African Delight: Vine Wreath and Baskets of Wild Flowers

With the use of herbs and the soft blue greens and lemon yellows this centerpiece has connotations of Mediterranean color schemes and scented gangue. Perfect for lazy summer lunches laid on rustic bare wood, the baskets and woven vine garland give a country feel.

You can use a garland to encircle other small collections of flowers. The center of the wreath could be filled with several small containers or one large shallow bowl which would be held securely and prettily encircled at the same time.

The two small baskets used here have been lined with tin foil to hold moisture in, not so important for an outdoor setting, but necessary for use on a vulnerable table surface or indoor furniture. Try to use some fresh herbs in the centerpiece to contrast with the flowers. Here sprigs of rosemary in flower and the rich glaucous green of rue add scent and texture to the overall effect.

Ingredients

• 2 small baskets
• Florist foam
• A small bunch of each of these: eucalyptus, rosemary, rue, helichrysum lanatum, lace flower, solidago, Peruvian lily
• Single chrysanthemum 1 vine wreath

1 Prepare and sort the flowers and foliage.

2 Cut foam to fit into each basket and soak. Line baskets with tin foil and put foam inside.

3 In one basket put bunches of eucalyptus and rosemary; put rue and helichrysum in the other.

4 Add white flowers: lace flower beside eucalyptus and chrysanthemum with rue. Add yellow flowers and place basket within wreath.
